With a 56mm objective lens and a 30mm aluminum mono-tube, the Sidewinder gives a clear picture even in poor light, and the red multi-LED illuminated reticle features can be set to any of 6 levels of intensity. Exhibiting views typically seen only on more expensive scopes, the 18-layer, fully-multicoated glass scope is intended for shooting under adverse circumstances.

The locking turrets adjust in a range of 20 MRAD by 1/10 MRAD clicks for windage and elevation, and now feature a witness window for a quick visual check of the elevation turret's setting. The side focus knob affords parallax-free viewing from 10 yards to infinity. The lenses are nitrogen purged, shockproof, fog proof, and waterproof to give sharp focus in diverse light and weather situations. The scope can be placed on any gun from an airgun to a firearm with recoil because of the strength of its build.

Hawke's second focal plane (SFP) half mil reticle makes it easy to shoot even in extreme conditions with multiple windage aim points and to calculate range. The reticle has accurate spacing at the 20x magnification setting, with markings every half MRAD, plus .2 mil markings on the first and last MRAD markings past the 6 mil post, and also features a series of crosses on the lower portion of the reticle at 1 mil increments in a Christmas tree style. Markings are .2 mil, .5 mil, or 1 mil in height, and crosses are .2 mil high and wide.
