Original treble boost pedals relied on the germanium-based designs of their time. Such designs, like the Rangemaster, proved expressive and original, but eventually unreliable in their construction. Silicon transistors, the usual go-to for replicating the sound of germanium with greater reliability, can usually drain the magic from authentic germaniums. To rectify this issue, Vox turned to a hand-selected, biased silicon Silver Can BC109 transistor to replicate the nuanced response of original germanium transistors.
